I would look into Fusion Marine units. As to the CD unit, those are a thing of the past.

If it was my boat? I would open the engine compartment with the engine running. Do you have the noise in gear? At lest that would tell motor or outdrive. If the outdrive, have you check the oil level? Than go from there...........

I think it depends on the model, tank size and age. Mine did about 6 or 7 strokes.

There must be a model number on the unit/tank itself. Also you should find the vent filter on top of the tank I would think. That's where mine was and and every season I had to change it. Ether the tank would smell or it was clogged.

I guess how dirty is dirty? How brackish is the water? Bottom paint will keep the bottom clean and it comes in many colors. Pull the boat out and drive away. You could hose it down too.
