2008 chaparral 236 Volvo SX prop questions

I've been contemplating on whether to switch my prop to see if it would reduce the annoying yawing action my boat has. Any speed below plane [~21mph] its a constant back and forth.

    Who's ready to go boating?

Before I had my current F150, I was dealing with my brothers 1996 Bronco. When it worked, it worked great but it was always something going wrong with it. If I had something repaired, sometimes within 24 hours something else would break. So far, I haven't had any problems while the boat is...

    Who's ready to go boating?

This is the east side of Lake Erie still weeks away from official boating season along with very calm winds……and cold. No kayakers as they usually stick to the Black Rock Canal or the Buffalo River. There are always a couple of knuckleheads around here but it doesn’t compare to what you...

    Who's ready to go boating?

An annoying part of our summer season is the kayakers. 20 years ago or more Buffalo didn't have much going on downtown at the water front. My dad and I use to take his boat and go up the Buffalo River. Back than, no such thing as a kayaker. We'd cruise past all the abandoned grain silos leaving...

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

I launched for the first time yesterday. I launched into the Erie Canal. Nice and calm. Spent 2.5hrs, cruising around. Raised and lowered the drive. Inspected the drive when I got home and the paint I applied is untouched. So, I'm thinking this was part of the repair in 2018, But I did find out...

Parking ticket? Doesn't this tell you indirectly that the boat exceeds the Jeeps tow limit?

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

I took a couple of videos but they are too large to post here. I’ll load it up to YouTube at some point. Anyways, I put a slip of paper in between the drive and the arm, raised and lowered the drive several times and the paper didn’t tear. So I guess I’m ok, at least on the trailer. I will get...

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

Finally we are into the beginning of a full week without rain! Here is a short video. There is slight movement. There is no movement of the drive within the gimble. But the drive AND the gimble move a little bit. I will do some other testing this morning.

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

That's what I'm hoping for. It may not be, but I've never seen one side worn and the other not. This weekend we'll see.

What's with the expansion of the outdrives? Is this just a fad or is there some advantage to having all of these engines.

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

When I got home this afternoon an idea pops into my head. Take a piece of paper and see if it will slide In between the drive and the arm. Surprisingly, it did. So that means they are not touching. When the weather clears later this week I will tape a piece of paper in between them and raise and...

    How Dumb

NY shows a paddle and hook as recommended. I have both on mine. The hook is used all the time but the paddle is rarely used as it is useless trying to paddle a 5000lb boat. In this situation, either one would have helped.

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

Checking my logbook and other pictures, the last time I hit anything was during the 2018 season. The arm above is a replacement as you can see in the picture below that the arm is broken off. I will check for loose nuts and bolts. What is the torque requirement for these nuts? I've read many...

Got a problem. Too much wear showing on outdrive

(Sigh). I had hoped for a non-issue start of the season but to no avail. I picked up the boat from storage and inspected the drive for any tinkering like I found last year. All is good. But….. I found some excessive wear between the starboard side of the drive and its guide (don’t know what’s...

    An usual project with concrete

The wood would probably be easier to deal with. The other little quirk is that it would be sitting on the other side of the property line. As it is now, the owner doesn't mind that the boat is a couple of feet over the line. The concrete tie might change his mind as it is more permanent and more...
