Thanks for the link, it brings back memories!

When I was a kid growing up in the 50's and 60's in rural Texas I was very interested in electronics. The only way to get parts was mail order, no internet and I never even thought about placing a phone order, long distance was for emergencies only!

Allied Radio in Chicago, Lafayette Electronics in New York, and Burstein-Applebee in Kansas City were the top suppliers. I'm glad to see that Allied survived.


Allied had a line of kit electronic stuff along the lines of Heathkit they called Knight Kits.
