Here`s a tip that might just get you back to port.

Carry a outboard fuel tank hose with you or just the ball pump.
Should the engine pump fail ,install the ball pump by removing the inlet hose or cut it and install the ball pump.
Should it rupture and leak fuel ,remove the steel line from the engine pump that goes to the carb or cut,/break in two,etc. remove the main fuel feed line to pump,install outboard one .
Pump and go.You may not be on plane but you will be moving.

For twin engine failure have the materials(clamps, tubing cutter or hacksaw,hose to reach the other motor,etc.) to cut a "T" into the steel fuel line going to the carb. from the good motor to the steel fuel line going to the bad motor. start the good one then start the bad one.
Faster than using the 1 engine.
