WESTERLY, R.I. – National Youth Marine Alliance has teamed with the United States Power Squadrons to reach out to all youth programs and offer free boating and water education materials for local youth programs, it reported in a statement today.

WaterSmart From The Start is a program that can be used at every waterfront facility, according to NYMA. The material covered in this educational program includes navigation (all kinds of boats – paddle, sail, power and oar – plus personal watercraft), safety and rescue, fishing and environmental education.

The program has an instructor’s guide as well as a student book. All the lessons are included on a CD with interactive games to play as well.

“This program is a must for every waterfront instructor’s tool kit,” stated NYMA in the release. “Summer Camps, Community Boating Programs, Parks and Recreation Programs, Fishing Clubs, Youth Sailing Programs, Yacht Club Junior Programs, Scout Units, and Programs on Public Lands can all benefit from having this resource material available.”

Through a special arrangement with United Sates Power Squadrons, a limited number of the program materials are now available free of charge. The only cost is the shipping charge. Each instructor booklet can accommodate a class of 10-20 students. The manual is designed so the instructor doesn't require any special boating knowledge to lead the class, NYMA explained.

To take advantage of this offer, you may place an order directly with United States Power Squadrons at www.shopusps.org/books.html or call 888 367-8777 x 210.
