AUGUSTA, Maine – Maine’s North Star Alliance Initiative, in collaboration with the Maine Marine Trades Association, has launched a new youth-oriented Web site and outreach campaign to educate Maine’s students, parents and teachers about the career possibilities and opportunities within Maine’s marine industries, the groups reported in a recent statement.

The campaign was launched at the monthly meeting of Maine Administrators of Career and Technical Education in Augusta. Mainemarinecareers.com is the final of four Web sites developed as part of the North Star Alliance Initiative to establish Web-based resources focused on growing and strengthening Maine’s boat building and marine industries, according to the groups. The other Web sites include mainebuiltboats.com, mainemarinetrades.com, and mainecompositesalliance.org.

“We are very excited to begin the New Year with this launch,” said Susan Swanton, executive director of the Maine Marine Trades Association. “Our goal is to strengthen Maine’s marine industry for long term sustainability and to do that, we need to insure that we have a steady stream of highly skilled workers. Reaching out and engaging young people is crucial to the continued growth and success of our industry.”

Mainemarinecareers.com provides students, parents and teachers with information on marine careers in Maine, including which skills and educational training are important for those careers and which schools and training centers are available to pursue those skills. Mainemarinecareers.com will be promoted through Maine’s secondary schools, career and technical education centers, post secondary schools, career fairs, community sailing programs and yacht clubs.

The Mainemarinecareers.com campaign is supported in part by the Market/Business Development Pillar of Maine’s North Star Alliance Initiative (NSAI) through Maine’s Department of Economic and Community Development. The NSAI works with Maine’s boatbuilding, composites and marine trades industries to grow Maine’s coastal workforce and economy.
