The chain should always be left on untill your safely in the water to a launching depth.
OR, YOU`LL GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN.

I saw an entire rig (boat and trailer) come off the back of a truck 2 weeks ago. Safety chains on the trailer are important as well!

After seeing that pic, I installed a safety chain on my pontoon boat because all it has is the nylon winch strap,which I trust completely,but I don't trust the stitches that hold the hook on the strap!!!

Good move Mike. Safety chains are important and overlooked by many. I missed this pic first time around as I was on vacation, but it goes to prove a picture is worth 1000 words. It shows 1st hand what can happen.

Pretty soon I`ll be mobile again to take more pics from the local ramps around here
