CHICAGO, Ill. — The San Diego Boat Show, the Schaumburg Boat & Sportshow and the Virginia In-Water Boat Expo & Sailfest are being discontinued, according to a report from the National Marine Manufacturers Association, which produces the shows.

The NMMA said its decision to cancel the shows is part of a strategic move to sustain the viability of boat shows and enhance the ROI for its exhibitors. The group said exhibitors were hurt by an overabundance of shows in certain markets, and eliminating shows will allow NMMA to focus on delivering improved quality at its other events.

“In an industry with fewer dealers and fewer manufacturers, there will be fewer boat shows,” said NMMA President Thom Dammrich. “This decision allows NMMA to streamline its show business and focus on providing dynamic shows in markets that are not over-served, which will ultimately deliver stronger shows for the industry in the long run.”

The 22nd annual San Diego Boat Show was scheduled to take place in January at the San Diego Convention Center and adjacent Marriott Marina, the 4th annual Schaumburg Boat & Sportshow was scheduled to take place Feb. 18-21 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center and the 5th annual Virginia In-Water Boat Expo & Sailfest was planned for the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront, Sept. 18-20.
